Chapter Ten Alexander

I parked my car in front of Sophia's apartment. Neither one of us made any move to step out. Sophia cleared her throat.

"I had a nice time tonight."

I turned to her. My breath sucked in at the sight. She was beautiful. A beauty that I had all night to look at and yet still I couldn't get used to it.

Her deep brown curls, the light makeup that accentuated her beauty, and the mind-blowing dress that she wore.

I nodded to her. "I did too."

"I should probably go up to my apartment." She unbuckled her seatbelt. "But I, well," she giggled. "I don't want the night to end yet." She reached over and grabbed my hand. "So, I was wondering if you would like to come up for maybe a drink or something."

"I'd like that."

"Good. Come on."

We got out of the car. I followed behind her as she walked. The curve of her hips in that sinful red dress had me increasing the pace at which I walked.

She fumbled with the keys to her apartment. Then, finally, she got it open. Her apartment was small and warm. Cozy.

I'd always lived in luxury with large TVs and modern furniture. Sophia's apartment, while nice, was the exact opposite; yet strangely, I found myself drawn to it. For some reason, I felt at ease here.

She went to the open kitchen area. "What would you like to drink? I have beer, water, and a half bottle of whiskey."

"Whiskey, please."

"Alright." She grabbed the drinks and a glass. Placing them down on the coffee table, she sat with her legs folded beneath her on the sofa. I laid my jacket on the back of her couch and mirrored her position.

I poured myself a glass and we toasted. I sipped the cool liquid. It burned my throat on the way down.

She tapped her nails on her glass. "Thank you for tonight."

"You don't have to thank me. I should be thanking you." I took a deep breath. "I was really nervous about asking you to dinner. I know the last couple of weeks we've been flirting. I wasn't sure if you liked me for more than that."

I finished off the rest of my drink. "I know everyone thinks that being rich is so easy. I have money; what do I have to complain about? But it's hard. I don't date much because most people only want me for my money. I just want someone who listens to me when I talk and wants to be with me." My voice went quiet, "I guess at one point I stopped trying to find love and stuck to only sex. It hurt less."

I paused and she grabbed my hand. I turned to her with a smile. "With you though, it's different. You don't make me feel like I'm just a rich person. I'm more than my achievements to you. I'm just me. It's a refreshing feeling to just be yourself."

Sophia ran her fingers over the back of my palm. "You're more than that, Alex.
